It was almost midnight when I got there. The crossroads. Considering my recent acquisition of a ghost type pokemon, I thought that a first catch here, would be fitting. "You ready?" I whisper to my undead partner, releasing him from his pokeball with a red glow which illuminated- however briefly- the surrounding area. Jig nodded and leered into the night. I reached into my bag and pulled out my flashlight. "Well, Jig, lets find some new friends." I whispered.
Jig stiffened- if it's possible for a ghost to do so-, and his one red eye rolled about in his head. He turned to me, and protested very loudly, before flying up, and around my head, and throwing out attacks at random, as if to say 'NO MY TRAINER.'
I hissed at him, "Jigglypuff, Stop that now!"
He stopped before me, his eye inches from my face, and made a long low grumble.
"Nobody will ever replace you, Jig, but I'm a pokemon trainer, and we're gonna need other friends if our team is going to be effective. Get it?"
Jig hesitated then nodded, and turned to face the night by my side...

I grinned, eying my pokemon. He looked good for dead. But we weren't here to admire each other in the dimness, we were here to battle. Well, first, we were here to find pokemon, and pokemon lived in tall grass. So, I picked a direction and walked in. At first, there wasn't much to see. The grass went up to my hips, in some places, my shoulders in others. There was a slight breeze, making the stalks drift lazily making my surroundings appear fluid, and shifting. Suddenly we were confronted by a pokemon, it was strange looking, almost less like a pokemon than a baloon. I pulled out my pokedex.
It is whispered that any child who mistakes Drifloon for a balloon and holds on to it could wind up missing. Because of the way it floats aimlessly, an old folktale calls it a "Signpost for Wandering Spirits." I scratched my head and looked at Duskull. My pokemon rolled his eye.
Drifloon suddenly saw us, and started in our direction, "Looooon!" It cried in a wavering yet soft voice.
Jig puffed up and attacked it with nightshade- without my permission. The drifloon squeeked and shied backward as before it's eyes some horror played that neither I, or my pokemon could see. "Jig!" I hissed, "No-" Jig hesitated, but relinquished his hold on the other ghost type's mind, and it sped off on a rogue wind, terrified of what lay behind it. "Jig, I'm the trainer. I know more than you. You have to listen to me! Seriously! And that means waiting until I tell you to attack other pokemon!" Jig deflated again and as an apology, floated up around my head, tossing strands of my hair to-and-fro.
"Dusk!"
"Yeah, ok. But remember next time, to wait for my commands." Jig floated around and nodded in front of me, his eye casting an odd light on the scene. "Now, let's find a pokemon." Jig pointed after the receding Drifloon sheepishly. "Nah, he looked like he had somewhere to go." I said trotting off into the field. I was hoping for a fire type to be honest. Maybe electric. Something... well, not ghostly. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to be honest. But when I saw the glow of ponyta's mane, I knew I had to catch him. The horse pokemon was standing in the fields, grazing. He was alone. I looked at Jig, and nodded. He went on ahead, turning himself invisible as I crept up, careful not to alert the fire type. As Jig got to Ponyta, he became opaque, and leered straight into Ponyta's eyes.
Ponyta reared up and tackled, but he just passed through Duskull, who chuckled malevolently. Then I called out, "Use nightshade before it gets away!"
My Duskull turned about instantly, and appeared before the Ponyta again, invading his brain with apparitions. Ponyta cried out, racing in the opposite direction... that is, toward me. Before he got to me, I jumped out of the way, and roared at it. Ponyta reared and kicked, eyes wide, terrified. "Nightshade again!" I yelled needlessly, because as soon as Ponyta got close to me, Jig became incredibly offended. In a flash he was circling Ponyta, attacking, and leering, always glaring at the fire pokemon. It tried again to tackle, but could not land a hit. "Silly creature." I muttered to myself, "It can't hit Jig. He's a ghost."
Jig chuckled again, ominously, and faded from sight. Ponyta seemed unconvinced- and rightly so- that it was gone. He planted his feet and neighed, shaking the flames of his mane and tale so they burned bright and hot. Something occurred to me then. If it wanted, Ponyta could light the grass on fire. Even if it didn't want to, it was possible that would happen. I hissed under my breath, "Jig, finish it!" and as I did, he appeared, eye bright in the distance, and zooming toward Ponyta, who was thrashing its tail about and snarling like a thing possessed. and then suddenly inches away from Ponyta's face, it stops and unleashes a imaginary horrors- with Nightshade- upon the flame horse. There was suddenly a lot of smoke.
It was everywhere, we were coughing- Ponyta and I- as I tried to find the embers it had shaken off it's mane. I went to stomp them out, but even as I did, there was more smoke. I covered my mouth with my jacket and stumbled as Ponyta reared again. Jig moved to shield me, and the pokemon- in hysterics now, fell backwards. I coughed heavily, and threw a pokeball at it. Then, I stamped out all the charred grass that I could find- not much. Luckily the grass had been wet, It smouldered then petered out, for the most part. A moment later, I looked back to the pokeball. It was still shaking.
