They had been racing about the plains all day, exploring through grass, tumbling down hills, and scaring the wool off several unwary Mareep. Her laughter echoed over the fields, along with her bird's songs. The morning had long since waned, and the afternoon was nearly gone. The Pokemon seemed all to be hiding, but the air was still charged, their energy was still high, and their hearts still pounding, demanding more! "I wish we could find a new Pokemon." She said, grinning. "Wouldn't that be cool? Something rare and beautiful? Another new-" She froze as something cold splashed her nose, and fell down her shirt. She looked up, and saw that it had begun to rain. "Well, that's unpleasant." She said, looking around. "And me without an umbrella."
She turned about in a full circle, noting the dark, roiling clouds. "Hmm. Well... darn." She said, "This isn't good."
The birds chirped in her ears, warning her about the severity of the downpour likely to come from it. "Well... You aren't supposed to to to trees either. Maybe..." She looked around, "There's nothing close. Come back into your Pokeballs, guys. I don't want you getting beaten up by the storm."
Pidge smacked the ball away with her wing, and flew in loops around her, "Pidge Pidgey ey!"
"Get back into your ball, Pidgey." She paused before throwing it. "Unless you want to use this as an opportunity to train too... No. Too risky. If you got hit by hail, or lightening... no." She threw the ball again, which this time, Tai intercepted.
"You two." She growled, "Are in serious trouble." Pidge and Tai went about trying to explain to their trainer why the risk would be worthwhile, but before they got far, Saarda spotted something approaching them, "What's that?" She asked quietly, Pokedex hovering over the figure, which seemed to be moving very quickly in their direction.

Saarda had thought as the storm kicked up, that there'd be no more pokemon out in the field. After all, it wasn't as though there were many water pokemon in the plains, but there.... Her Pokedex locked, caught an image of a furry white and orange face. "Growlithe." Saarda breathed as the Pokedex began to speak in it's toneless voice. 'Growlithe, a Puppy Pokémon of pleasant demeanor and great diligence. It drives enemies away with barks and bites.' "Guys?" She asked her Pokemon. "He would be great to have on our team." Tailow and Pidge nodded, and rode the wind upward as Growlithe spotted her, and rushed in her direction, hurling himself so quickly he almost lost his footing. He was barking at her, snapping his teeth. "You OK, guy?" She called nervously, glancing up to locate her birds, as it squared off against her. He barked fiercely, then, before he could lunge at her, Pidge dove and smacked into the side of his head in a fierce tackle. "Don't waste your energy on Sandstorm, Pidge, the dirt's too wet." She yelled over the puppy pokemon's yelp of pain. At the moment the Pidgey moved away, Tai came down from behind, growling, and hit Growlithe with a powerful peck. Saarda directed them to continue this cycle until the puppy began to snap at them, and spit embers. “Woah, be careful. We’re lucky we found him in this storm. Hit him from behind Pidge, in the head, then Tai circle around and Peck his back flanks.” Tai flapped his wings furiously, working up his speed, before he circled. “Good job!” She called. “Pidge, now!” She shot from the cloudbanks above, like a brown bolt of lightning, making Growlithe fall to the ground, and roll. He got back up quickly, and almost bit Pidge’s wing, but she was too quick. She called out triumphantly taunting him, just too far away for him to hit her, so he was unprepared as Tai hit his left rear leg, pecking his back until the puppy turned about, barking at the bird, and in his distraction, Pidge came and hit him in the ear. He whined sharply, staggering and limping, yet still seeming ready for a fight. For a split second the Growlithe looked up at the clouds and grimaced. He knew as she did that he held a distinct disadvantage in the current circumstances. His stomach growled irritatingly, however, and he snarled in anger as it annoyed him. The still moment ended, and his eyes connected with hers. He seemed to smile looking left. Looking right. Then, ignoring the incoming attacks, shrugging them off somehow, he lunged for her! Saarda had known something like this might happen. She’d thought she was prepared for it, but as the puppy leapt at her- no doubt intent on pinning the pokemon trainer and using her against the birds which seemed so intent on injuring him- she realized she hadn’t really been prepared. She did the only thing she could think to do in such a situation. She punched him in the head. It didn’t have the effect she’d hoped, he shrugged it off like nothing, and pinned her. He roared in her face, teeth bare. Her birds hesitated above them, but his foot must have hit Maelon’s pokeball. He jumped out of the white light hissing and screeching. He saw the dangerous position his trainer was in, he saw the birds paralyzed above, then he cried out for direction. “Bubble!” She cried as she tried to push the dog off of her, holding his jaw, which was gaining ground on her throat. “He’s a fire type, he’s weak against water!” “SUR!” Maelon cried as he launched a long stream of bubbles at the Growlithe. “SUR!” He bellowed as he quickly attacked pressure points on Growlithe’s right flank. “Sur Skit!” The bubbles again. Growlithe had been taking the assault, cringing under the weight of the attack, but he had begun to weaken. As Surskit kept hitting his flank with quick attack, and bubble, his limbs began to shake. His snaps lost some of their power, and she was able to push him back. His nails bit into her shoulders, and she gritted her teeth as some blood seeped into the grass. “Surskit, hit him in his face with bubble, but don’t let him get away. I’m getting this dog off of me!” She yelled. She shoved him off, and pinned him to the ground, telling the wild pokemon, “You made a mistake, attacking me, buddy. Surskit!” “Sur!” he acknowledged, standing in a puddle nearby, blowing as many bubbles as his little body could blow, at the larger puppy pokemon. Growlithe shook his head, cringing, crying out “Grow!” Then, Saarda jumped back and threw a pokeball at the puppy pokemon and crossed her fingers.

As the Pokeball's light went dark, Saarda jumped and shouted, "Yes! Mealon! You were Amazing! Amazing, little friend!" She bent down and scooped the bug up, no longer minding the water running into her eyes. Not caring that her clothes were drenched. She looked the blue bug in the eyes and said, "That was truly amazing. You saved my life, buddy." She kissed him on the nose. The little pink spots on his cheeks grew, and he made a happy noise. "Sur?" "I can not wait to tell everybody about how a little blue bug and a couple of birds took down a growlithe! Of course, we can't tell the story in front of him. He's our newest friend." She nodded. Surskit returned the nod seriously and settled into her hand with a happy little grin. He closed his eyes and sighed. "You deserve that rest, Maelon." She patted the yellow crown on his head. She looked up into the sky, and spotted her birds laboring to keep their feathers afloat, and she sighed. Discipline was not her favorite job. She scratched her chin, how did she go about handling this? They responded the way most pokemon would respond to a roar. That was true, but they were not 'most' pokemon. No, they were hers, and they were a pair against one Growlithe. She shook her head, her hair sllapping agsinst her neck thickly. Evidence of the water weight it carried. "Tai, Pidge! Return." She pointed to the ground where the Growlithe had pinned her.
She put Maelon in his pokeball, which, she sensed, was where he was most comfortable. "Do you know what you did wrong?"
Pidge looked sick. Tai looked as though he wanted to cry. "Look at me, guys. You're not in trouble."
The pair looked back at her sharply, questions blazing into her through their eyes. "You did very well, until he attacked me. In fact, you were doing exactly what I wanted you to do. Good job." The pair shuffled their talons, and peeped small ashamed noises, looking at the Pokeball, inside of which lay the Growlithe which could have seriously injured their trainer. "I said good job." She knelt, patting their heads, "And I meant it." She offered their usual perches to them as a reward, which they gratefully accepted. Saarda picked up the ball, and looked at it, "But when Growlithe hit me, you froze. You can't do that." She shook her head, "It is of the most importance that you never let that happen again. But-" She cut their protesting chirps off with a raised fist. "But that's the point of training, isn't it?" The birds glanced at each other, and nodded slowly. "Come on. We need to get you all to the Pokemon center, for a rest, some warmth and some food." Her own stomach growled, "Well, I guess I need some of that too." She chuckled.
The pokemon chirped happily, if tentatively, and crowed close, under her wet hair to keep warm on her neck, and probably to reestablish the caring they felt for her. "You too, guys." She assured them as she placed Growlithe on her hip, and started jogging back to town.
