She shifted the pokeball between her hands with nervousness. This was the start of something entirely unfamiliar to her. Never before had she been so out in the open. Johto was the home of her father and even in Kanto she had her companions. Kyozon was a new tomorrow though. She was alone. It was time to get herself acquainted with the new pokemon. Back in the lab, Professor Willow had offered her the choice of some very familiar pokemon and some she had never even seen. Whitney really had only scratched the surface of this world. She wanted to pick the Totodile, for comfort’s sake. It made her think of her dear Feraligatr back home, who was not very happy to see her leave alone. He had been one of her most protective pokemon, in her keeping since his birth.
However, the stranger challenged her to start over from scratch. So, she took her hand at the eggs within the lab. She was relieved to find it was a water pokemon. Water types were something she was comfortable with. Thinking fondly of her Vaporeon, Whitney strolled down the road. She missed Vaporeon. There was never a time when they were apart. The champion tried hard to mask the sadness of her face. She was about to meet her newest friend! There was no need for tears. She placed herself somewhere comfortable, by a small little pond decorated with trees and flowers. Goldeen swam lazily through the water, avoiding Whitney as she dipped her feet into the water.
The pokeball gleamed under the sweet sunlight. Taking a deep breath, her finger lingered over the latch. “Okay! Here’s the start of my journey. Let’s find Dad and new pokemon.” A little reassurance before she released the pokemon next to her. She was a small, sky blue ball of fat. Adorable in every way. Her dark eyes glistened as the light of the water reflect onto them. The trainer had never seen a pokemon like her, but her pokedex told her it was called Spheal.
The little ball of adorable piped a happy tune at Whitney. Her hands reached out to the Spheal and picked her up carefully. “Well, hi there! My name is Whitney.” Her voice was an identical tune of happiness. Her mood was already picking up, knowing she wasn’t to be alone. The texture of the pokemon was a slick and smooth surface. Her hand stroked her new companion’s stomach. The talkative Spheal cried out to the girl with what seemed like an overjoyed smile as it launched itself onto her lap. Whitney was startled, but couldn’t help but laugh. “Outgoing, are we? Why don’t you show me what you can do, Spheal?”
Happy to oblige, the little ball turned itself around and hopped into the water. It’s fat created some buoyancy for her to float in the pond. She playfully sprayed water at Whitney. The trainer tried to cover herself quickly, but was drenched. “Hahaha, alright. I gotcha!” The champion begged for mercy. The pokemon wriggled in the water and faced the small crowd of Goldeen. It let out a growl that frightened the fish to another corner of the pond. “Intimidating.” Whitney mused. Her feet splashed the water around. “Wonder if there are any other trainers around…” Her battle instincts kicked in. She wanted to see Spheal’s full power. Battle had always been her way to bond.
