"One odd thing after another..." Saarda whispered to herself as they entered the wetland which looked rather more like a soupy forest. "Did you see that??" She asked, pointing over Zane's shoulder as he directed Ponyta into the swampland. "The red thing, the- Over there!!" She pointed vigorously, leaning over him so that even though she was behind him on Ponyta's back, half of her body was in front of him. "Did you see it? I saw that thing in the grove just before I left Kaishi!" She exclaimed. "Only... it was a ghastly there..." but it was gone just like before, and it didn't appear to be coming back. "And now... Duskull." She looked down at Zane. "You saw it right?"

Unfortunately as they were entering the forest, Zane wasn't really paying attention to what was in front of them but rather what was above them. Suddenly, and forcibly, Saarda leaned forward, pushing him down towards Ponyta's fierce mane in eagerness to point something out for him. "What!?" he exclaimed in initial happiness, expecting some kind of rare poke'mon. He scanned the general direction she was pointing and...saw nothing of note. A couple bird poke'mon fluttering in the sky but nothing to fancy. "What are you pointing at?" he asked, she mentioning a ghastly. "But now it's a Duskull?" he questioned in his mind, looking at her with strange eyes before signalling Ponyta to move into a nearby clearing with solid ground rather than the mush nearby. "I'm not sure what you say, but I didn't see any Duskull. You feeling all right?" he asked in a concerned tone, dismounting the horse with finesse; he looked around the air for any serious threats and didn't release any poke'mon. The area wasn't really good for his ground types except Sora who had the advantage of flying.

As he walked the area shortly, he quickly found his feet stuck in some purple goop that just would not let go of his boot until he yanked on it with his hands while pulling up with his foot. "Jesus this exploration is going to take forever if that happens every time we step foot of anything solid." he said, cursing his bad luck as he continue in a semi circle looking around for other areas of purple sludge, not finding any at all. Sora was busy flying overhead, toying with the bird poke'mon in the trees having a jolly good time. Zane raised a hand to Sora, calling her down so he could have her looking for anything like what he had just stepped in. In fact, in just a few moments Sora was diving toward Zane, landing between him and the blob. The young blonde was in alarm at the sudden nature of the act and had to inquire as to why she stopped searching. "What did you find up there? Are we surrounded in it?" he asked. Sora merely pointed toward the spot he stepped in; it began to change...it began to grow upwards! The purple goop soon revealed two eyes and a devious grin because of the deception, it was only natural to gloat after such a good job. "All right Sora, looks like we have a bit of work to do before we can proceed, take to the air!" he called, whipping out his poke'dex at the same time. "Gligar!" she cried as the optical lens focused. Zane looks bewildered at the creature. "How can this place thrive if it's inhabited by creatures like this?" he questioned, his mind going to the frequently told folk lore about the swamp and it's magical nature. It couldn't be true...could it? "All right, let's to this! Sora use Sand Attack, let's make things hard for it." he smiled. Zane's scout quickly dips toward the ground with speed hard to track. All the flying it does in his travels has allowed it to master it's flight much greater than it would have in the wild. The gligar pulled up right before the ground near Grimer and began to flip her wings wildly creating a small dust storm directed at the Sludge poke'mon. Most of the particles just stuck against the creature, and were slowly enveloped within itself. "Well that didn't work..." he mumbled as Sora flew into the air again. She seemed to be waiting for instruction as Grimer took the offensive. It began emitting a foul smelling gas into the air aimed for Zane's poke'mon and the trainer quickly sided with logic. "Sora! Gust it away with your wing's then let's go in for a poison sting!" he ordered. Sora quickly did so, the gas disappating in the surrounding area quickly and she dove straight for the poke'mon with her stinger outstretched. She connected with ease, the end of her stinger sinking into the sludge. But... "Sora!" he shouted, panicking as she was slowly being envoloped by the folds of sludge Grimer was pushing onto her. Stuck and halfway inside the creature, Zane looked to his Ponyta. "Ponyta! Quick, burn it with all the ember you can muster!" he directed. His poke'mon reered on it's hind legs as it sucked in air for the blast it was preparing. Just as Sora's nose was covered, Ponyta's flame shot forth at the slow moving creature; it was unable to dodge. The burning flames singed the grimer in such a way at it's mouth opened wide and Sora came pouring out in awful condition. "Again Ponyta!" he demanded, and she billowed fire at the poke'mon who was once again preparing a poison gas attack. But as the flames touched the gas, it seemed to ignite back on it's creator. Once he knew it was possible, he tossed a poke'ball with precision and went to retrieve her as fast as he could.

Saarda watched the battle in horror, remembering the time Grimers had attacked a town in Kanto when she was a child. It hadn't been her town... but the idea had captured the imagination of a small girl. When Zane had finally caught the thing she felt a little better. "How can this place be so beautiful if it's inhabited by..." She gestured at Grimer's pokeball. She looked around again suddenly, thinking about that red pokemon, "You... you didn't see it." She said with a frown. "I know it was there, Zane. I'm not crazy. I don't think it was a Duskull either. It was... it looked wrong. And that's not just me talking color, the face was wrong!" She exclaimed.
"Congratulations, though... on catching that... er... grimer." She said with a grimace. Then the grimace melted into a smile, "Trish and the boys..." She muttered, casting out three pokeballs. Emery and Trish, upon sight, growled and started tumbling about in a ferocious playfight. Shadow shook his head, his ego inflating, and came to rest his head on Saarda's foot. She whistled screechingly, Trish and Emery froze, while Shadow's ears just perked straight up. "I saw something over there." She gestured into the trees where the red pokemon had been. See if you can't pick up its scent." She glanced at Zane to gauge his reaction, then she returned to orders, "If you can't..." She shrugged, "I'm sure we'll see it again. Find me a pokemon to catch, guys."

Saarda bit her lip. She knew she was right. Knew that pokemon bad been there… but what if it were a ghost pokemon? Not a gastley or a duskull but something else, and like the other two, wouldn’t leave a trace of itself behind. What if it knew teleport? It could be anywhere now. What if she had been wrong… she shook herself. Wrong once… maybe. Wrong twice? No. She knew it had been there. She nodded. Even if they didn’t find anything, she would hold onto that. Zane didn’t believe her… and though that kind of stung- he was her best if not only friend, here in Kyozon- she wasn’t going to let it get her down. She pointed and made hand signals for the pokemon, then as they went, she pulled out her pokedex, holding it out waiting for something to appear. Preferably something that confirmed that she was right. Something happened then. The sun burst forth salving the world with brightness for a moment as the sky showed itself, cloudless and bare, and the light hit the pokedex just so… the reflection beam hit Saarda in the eyes., then she turned it and it went into the trees. Then the sun disappeared and cloudshadow took over once more.
As the dog pokemon fanned out, practicing pack skills, Saarda heard a sharp crowing from somewhere up above. She looked up just in time to see a black and yellow blur diving at her. She threw up her hands and smacked it away, but it came back, “EMERY EMBER!” She shouted. The dogs stopped making their ruckas over where she’d seen the red duskull, and immediately, faster than she could have thought, Emery was there, leaping up with angry teeth at the wild murkrow. “Trish, Thunderwave! Paralyze it, then boys both of you use Ember!” She called, clutching her arm, which Murkrow had been attacking. She felt her blood rather than the wound, as it slid down her arm, “Crap!” She grunted, pressing the wound against her shirt, trying to staunch the bleeding. “Hit it hard!”
Snapping furiously, Trish blocked its attack on Emery, and sent out the requested electric charge. Murkrow froze with a squawk, and fell to the ground. The jarring impact awakened its limbs, however, and it struggled to its feet. “Murkrow!” It shouted in defiance as it tried to take off. Growlithe leered at it angrily, and it, surprised, staggered in a birdy way, backwards. It looked around, and, finding itself surrounded, shrugged… for a moment nothing happened. Then it shouted and struck Trish on the muzzle. She cried out and flinched away. Murkrow escaped their circle and flew away triumphantly, crying out into the… er… midday. “MurKROW!’
“Don’t give up, Trish, you’re alright, girl!’ Saarda cringed. “Shadow, howl!” He did, and as his spirits rose, she commanded, “Ember!” And he launched a ball of fire at the darting bird, who, unaware that he had not escaped the range of the dog pokemon, was gloating far above. As the ball neared, his eyes widened comically, and he darted downward. “Emery hit him!” She called out, causing Emery to leap up and grab the bird in his mouth, taking him down to the ground. “Ember, Emery!” She ordered. Emery used Ember and the Murkrow launched out his mouth, rolling head over heels on the ground. “Trish Thundershock!’ Saarda ordered. Her green pokemon pawed the ground nervously, then launched herself forward with the thundershock, landing a clever tackle just after the electric attack landed. “Good thinking!”
The Murkrow suddenly moved, a gleam in the eye, “Mur.” It growled as it pecked Trish in the nose. The green electric type yelped and ran away, but was suddenly and violently hit by Pursuit, “Murcrow!!” It crowed.
“No!” Saarda yelled, as she pulled out Trish’s ball, and returned her in a brilliant flash of red light. Shadow made eye contact with her, and glared at Murkrow with a harsh leer. Emery, Bite!” Emery lunged forward and bit the air where Murkrow had been moments before.
Shadow saw the bird type flutter away and knew just as Saarda knew, that this battle needed to end. He circled around, darting over the soupy ground, his head low, teeth bare…
Murkrow wasn’t stupid, however, he saw Shadow’s plan, and to thwart it, he flew up high then dove down once more, trying for his true objective, which, since the ray of light had hit the trees, had been to steal Saarda’s pokedex. She saw what he was doing, aimed it at him-
’ Murkrow, the Darkness Pokémon. Murkrow confuse would-be attackers by luring them into dark mountain trails, where they are sure to get lost. This may be why so many people believe that if you see a Murkrow at night it will bring bad luck. Feared and loathed by many, it is believed to bring misfortune to all. It hides any shiny object it finds in a secret location. Murkrow and Meowth loot one another's stashes. It shows strong interest in anything that sparkles. It will even try to steal rings from women… This pokemon is the first of its kind recorded attacking a trainer for her pokedex.
“Emery-aagh!” She yelled as she dashed away. The Murkrow simply followed. “Murkrow!!” She shouted, “If you don’t leave me alone, I’m going to hit you with a frying pan!” She shouted.
“MUR MURKROW!!!!” It cried as it attacked her. She ran back toward the dog pokemon who were both charging up raging embers, and as she dove in-between them, hit the murkrow head on with fierce flames. The Murkrow fell backward and rolled to a stop, singed but apparently ready for more.
“Enough of this!!” Saarda shouted, and threw a ball at the blackbird. “You are not going to chase me around this swamp!”
She waited quite impatiently for the ball to stop shaking, hands on her hips. “And if you don’t stay in there… I always have the pan.” She stomped over to their gear, and pulled it out, brandishing it threateningly at the pokeball as it shook.

Saarda should have known it wasn’t going to take… at least not that first time. But she had fully expected the pokemon to be caught, so when Murkrow burst free from the ball, hurtling at her she screamed and dropped the pan. She stuffed the pokedex in her pocket and ducked. Murkrow overshot his target, as he flew past, Shadow leapt up and snapped at murkrow’s wings, missing only by inches. “You have to be kidding me!” She snapped looking over her shoulder. Murkrow had steadied out and turned around, searching for the pokedex. It was nowhere to be seen… but he knew she had it. The ladies always had the good shiny stuff. He flapped back to her, intent on beating her with his wings until she released his prize. She, however had remembered her wits and grabbed the pan. “Come at me again!” She shouted brandishing it.
Unfortunately for her, the pan was also shiny.
He cried out in pleasure at the perceived offering and went to try and collect it, intent on taking it to his nest and returning for the pokedex. “What are you- No- this is mine too!”
It’s funny that she said that… it was the same thing Murkrow was thinking.
“Let go, ya dumb bird-“ She said as it caught hold of the side.
It said “Mur mur, kro krow mur!”
“No!” She retorted yanking it back, stumbling as it let go and she almost went down. “Hah!” She stuck out her tongue and brandished it at her. Murkrow simply grabbed hold again, and pulled as hard as his small birdy body could pull. Saarda almost let go, but her pride wouldn’t let her. “You are a very bad bird!”
“MurKROW!”
She glanced down at her pokemon who were watching the proceedings with confusion. They didn’t know exactly what to do.
“A little help!” She snapped, “Emery Bite! And for goodness sake, the pokedex says you both have intimidate, why is this bird still coming at me?”
Shadow shrugged.
“Big help.” She grunted. “Ember now!”
The boys barked in unison and shot balls of fire at the bird who, as he was currently engaged in a tug-of-war over a frying pan- could not dodge. He squawked things that were probably very rude in his murkrow language, and made mean faces at the dogs, but otherwise was simply unaffected.
“Ugh!!” She roared, ripping the pan away and throwing the first and closest thing she could at it. The other one of her pokeballs not currently stored in her bag.

The Murkrow burst out of the ball, full of spit and fire. "MURKROW!" It squawked irritably. Saarda stuck out her tongue at it as it flew away, having had enough.
"Well... that was embarrassing." She muttered as she thought about the battle. Tug of war with a bird. Over a frying pan. Her cheeks flared as she looked over her shoulder at Zane. She wondered what he thought of it... probably he was laughing at her. She felt her blush taking over and she hunched her shoulders a bit. "Ouch." She grumbled. Her arm was cut from the Murkrow's initial attack. Her hands hurt from gripping the pan. Her elbows hurt from when she dove in-between Emery and Shadow, and her pride seriously ached from the entire ordeal. She didn't even catch it. She heaved a sigh. And no evidence of the ruby colored pokemon. "I am so dirty." She mumbled as she looked down. Her front was stained with mud. "What a day." She sighed, "Erm... so... I am really hungry." She said to Zane. "Want to make camp and have lunch?" And get cleaned up. Times like now she really wished she had a water type. She'd just have it use water gun or something, and she'd be clean. He must think I'm an idiot she thought with a sigh as she sat heavily down on the cleanest driest rock she could find.

The battle was incredibly intense between the shifty enemy and tactics that Zane pondered at every turn of the battle. Questions about every decision she made wiggled in his mind, and his expression lightened when things worked as he thought they would, but darkened when it just didn't seem to be turning the way he would want it. Of course, he wanted the young woman before him to succeed, but the opponent just seemed to be more resilient. As it flew away from a fight it no longer wanted to entertain, Zane made his way closer to Saarda with a sympathetic smile curved on his lips. "You'll get the next one, don't worry about it."
She began to mumble about things Zane couldn't hear, but he could see the cut on her arm and an expression of slight worry passed over him. "You all right?" he asked quickly, not wanting to be too invasive. To him, she seemed to have taken on a defensive posture. It just a few moments, things seemed to brighten up with the mention of making camp so that they could eat. Zane nodded his head quietly and grabbed the poke'balls on his belt. Dropping them to the ground one at a time, he released the poke'mon that weren't out already for a meal. The guy looked at Saarda who seemed to be rather perturbed with her outlook. Though he couldn't just assume that. "Hey, let's get the food out and you'll forget all about that."
