Saarda had decided that the Grove was a very nice, homey place and that the spirits of the dead probably didn't hang out here, as she'd been spending the night here fore weeks, and had never caught sight of even one... aside from Boo, who was now in the pokemon pc, and besides that, had been caught elsewhere. It was either that, or they didn't like her enough to visit her. Or they visited while she slept. Perhaps they thought they were funny. Who knows? She shrugged as she let her pokepals out of their balls, and introduced everyone to their newest friend. "This is Princess. She's a nidoran♀. Eventually, she might evolve into a Nidoqueen, so I named her Princess. Princess Nidoqueen kinda has a ring to it, doncha think? She chuckled, "Well, anyway, Princess, here's everyone. You already met Emery. He likes to play. That's Trish, the most stubborn Electrike in the entire world. There are Pidge and Tai, total goofballs, but they're experienced, so pay attention to them. And that little fellow is Maelon. He's a lazy butt, but he can go the distance if he has to. Welcome to the team." Princess puffed out her chest and looked around elegantly. She seemed to regard them all with pity that they were not, and never could be as incredibly awesome as she was.
"Nido." she said in a cool soft tone. Gracing them all with her presence and speech.
Emery approached wagging his tail, and tagged her with his paw. He leaped back, bum wagging in time with his tail. She hissed, puffing furiously.
"Growllithe!" He barked, lunging past her and running around in a circle. She followed hissing and spitting, completely ready to tear him a new one. He looked like he was having the time of his life. Then, something made Emery stop. Princess collided headlong with his backside and made him stumble slightly. "Grow?" he murmured cocking his head at the pokemon he'd found. He pounced on it, ready for another pokemon battle- well, he was going to, but seeing that his attention was suddenly elsewhere, Princess flew into a rage and rushed the wild pokemon furiously.

Saarda rushed over at the sound of Princess’ fury, to find that she was grappling with a cute little bug pokemon. Saarda zeroed in on it with her pokedex, which told her,
~‘Ledyba, the Five Star Pokémon. It is very timid. It will be afraid to move if it is alone. But it will be active if it is in a group. When the weather turns cold, lots of LEDYBA gather from everywhere to cluster and keep each other warm. It conveys its feelings with scent. SLEEP conditions lasts for half as long. Since the pokemon doesn’t sleep much at all, status effects like Sleep powder have little effect. Sometimes lasting half the time or less what the average pokemon experiences. This effect is so strong that sometimes the Pokémon wakes up instantly.’ ~
Saarda chewed on that bit of information, thinking of Zane’s Caterpie which had probably already evolved into a metapod by now… and eventually it’d be a butterfree… which used sleep powder. It’d be a good thing to have a pokemon which wasn’t effected by that. She nodded to herself, and called out, “Hit him with a scratch, then growl! Emery stand back and let her work. If she needs help hit Ladyba with an Ember!” She called out her orders and watched as Princess growled furiously, making the timid bug type shiver and retreat, only to meet with her claws.
After a few moments of this, Ladyba got desperate, and flew at her in a tackle. Princess tumbled head over heels, but landed on her feet and flew back into the fray, just as Saarda had expected. Ladyba, however, had just found something that Saarda herself had not known. The spines on Nidoran, no matter how young, held poison. She was not capable of willfully shooting it, but the tackle had pricked Ladyba’s skin and poisoned him. He shook his head, and tried to retreat, but he found his exit blocked by a stoic growlithe- who for once was focusing on the task at hand.
Ladyba squealed and bolted forward, to be met by Princess’ claws. He tried to tackle her again, but it was weaker. He whimpered piteously as he fell, wings faltering. “Lady…Ba…” he murmured, trying to get back to his little feet. She cringed at the little red bug’s pain. Feeling bad that this was the way it had to be. Then, with an imperious attack, Princess scratched Ladyba’s face so that his legs gave out on him. “Ba.” He sighed. Sitting still for a moment. Princess nodded, and pranced away. Emery sat and stared at the little bug, waiting for something. Saarda waited as well, knowing that there was going to be more to the battle.
All of a sudden, there was a loud noise from the other side of the clearing. A bright light and a sound, which could only be described as terrifying, cracked through the Silent Grove. “What was that?” Saarda cried, whirling away from the battle. There was a faint shape on the other side of the clearing. Reddish in hue. It resembled a Ghastly, but the face was wrong. Saarda whipped out the pokedex, trying her darndest to get a read on what the heck that was, but it was gone within an instant. Behind her, Emery had barked. She looked back to see the ladyba shivering. Growlithe whined. Worried. “Did you see…? Oh. He doesn’t look good.” She said. She fed the wild pokemon a pecha berry. The pokemon whimpered and she tossed her pokeball, distractedly. She turned back for a moment and saw the red ghastly disappearing. “wait-“ She called, “No! Trish, use Thunderwave on that-“ It was gone before she could speak another word. “Agh!” She cried, looking back, hoping that she’d caught it, otherwise missing that rare pokemon would have been for nothing…

As the ball clicked closed, she whirled around. Her emotions warring within her. What had she missed? What had she missed... What had she captured? Ledyba were cute, sure, but they were also cowardly, and... not really what she wanted in her pokemon. She sighed, and watched as the ball vanished back to the PC. She sat down in her spot and gathered her pokemon around her. The night's rest, had been thwarted. She would not sleep. She brushed the hair out of her eyes, and sat cross legged in the grass. Princess climbed into Saarda's lap, and snuggled, soon to be fast asleep. Saarda stroked the pokemon's neck, careful of the poisonous barbs. She was feeling kinda down.
That was when she remembered her family. She still hadn't contacted them. Mom would be hurt, dad... probably furious that she'd left without his approval... and probably terribly worried. She knew what four of her five brothers would say, 'You're selfish, you're stupid, you're bad. Mom and dad have been worried. Hurt. Angry. We've had to deal with it. How could you be so selfish? Weren't you the "good one"?' Her youngest brother would be proud. He looked at her like a hero. If she had been able to, she would have brought him along. Gotten him started on his own pokemon journey. They were two of a kind, she and little Cael. If nothing else... she could call Cael.
Saarda pulled out her hand-me-down pokenav and dialed his number, hoping it'd be him to pick up.
She smiled as the ringing stopped and a small male voice asked tightly, "What's the password?"
"Pokemon-are-cool." She said the three words as though they were one.
"I knew you'd call me!" He said in a hushed voice, "I miss you so much! The other boys don't play with me 'cause I'm the baby, and dad is always mad because he thinks I knew you left. It's been awfully lonely."
"I'm sorry." She said, her own voice growing tight, "I miss you too. Guess what though."
"You got a pokemon??" Cael asked with excitement.
Saarda grinned, "I have eight."
"NO WAY!" He cried, "What- what are they? Do you- do you have an Onyx, and a- Pikachu-?" He ran out of breath.
"I have a Pidgey, she was my starter, a Taillow, a Surskit, a Growlithe, an Electrike, a Drifloon, a Nidoran female, and a Ledyba male." She said... "And... I'm pretty sure I just saw some kind of rare pokemon nobody's ever seen yet. I don't know what it was though."
"Wow..." He murmured. "You're amazing! Sis." There was a faint noise, and his breath caught, "That's mom. She'll want to talk to you."
"Just for a minute. It's the middle of the night here."
"OK."
She heard her brother's voice muffle for a moment, then her mother whispered, "Are you alright? You made it to Kyozon safely?"
"Yeah, mom, I'm fine." She said, smiling. "I've already caught seven pokemon outside my starter."
"I am so proud of you." She said, "You're doing what I never got the chance to do."
"I know, mom. Give my love to everyone... I have to go now, mom."
"Alright, your father misses you."
"I miss him too, but I'm not coming home... not for a long while."
She sighed, "I know. I just wish you'd call more often."
"Bye mom, bye Cael." She said then ended the connection, and sighed. "That was easier than I expected..." But just as draining. She put most of her pokemon in their balls, but left Tai and Emery out. Then she drifted off to sleep.
